As I sat down to write this, I found myself pondering one simple question: "What do I truly want you to know about me?" Those four words above highlight what I strive for each day.
I understand joy and pain intimately, and I believe that every emotion deserves my attention, respect, and curiosity. This insight not only enriches my personal journey but also grounds my work with clients, allowing me to approach our sessions with genuine empathy and understanding.
I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, Couples Therapist, and Facilitator—passionate about helping individuals and relationships heal and thrive. My training encompasses a range of therapeutic approaches, including the STAIR Method, Somatic Experiencing, Brainspotting, Playback Theatre, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Neuroscience, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, and Internal Family Systems Therapy.
I founded the Relational Healing Institute with a commitment to healing relationships, particularly among marginalized communities. The P.R.I.D.E model I created—Pivot, Rumble, Imagine, Develop, and Evolve—is a framework that I also utilise for clients and fellow professionals alike.
Imagination holds a special place in my heart. I invite my clients to envision new possibilities for their lives, and I walk alongside them as they explore pathways that resonate with their well-being.
On a personal note, I am a mother, a partner, a researcher, a social worker, an advocate, an educator, a facilitator, and, of course, a therapist. Each of these roles shapes who I am and informs the spaces I occupy.
I approach my work authentically, using both my skills and personal stories to help others discover their best selves. Together, we seek a sense of Authenticity, Abundance, Alignment, and Attunement.
I sincerely wish for you to be well, happy, and at peace.
Warm regards,
Akilah Riley-Richardson, MSW, CCTP
I work collaboratively with our clients to identify their strengths and build on them to achieve positive outcomes. I also integrate neuroscience so that we can work with an understanding of how a shift in your brain can lead to a shift in your life.
